About FundedLife
Plain-English, genuinely independent information for the financial decisions that only come around once or twice in a lifetime.
We built the guide we wish had existed.
Most personal finance resources fall into one of two camps: overwhelming detail written for professionals, or oversimplified advice that glosses over the bits that actually matter. FundedLife is an attempt to fix that.
The site was founded by Robin Calvert, a financial systems specialist with over 25 years of experience working inside some of the UK and global financial industry's most complex infrastructure — from Visa clearing and settlement systems to enterprise payment platforms used by banks and institutions worldwide.
That background shapes everything about how FundedLife is written. When we explain how stamp duty works, or what happens to your pension on divorce, or why the seven-year gift rule matters — we're drawing on decades of experience understanding how financial systems actually operate, not just summarising what's already on GOV.UK.
What FundedLife is:
Plain-English guides to the financial decisions that come with major life events. Free to read, always.
What FundedLife isn't:
A financial advisory service. We are not regulated by the FCA, and nothing on this site constitutes personal financial advice. We'll always tell you when something warrants a conversation with a qualified adviser — and we mean it.
Why it's free:
FundedLife is an independent publication. We occasionally feature clearly labelled sponsored content and recommended products where we believe they offer genuine value to our readers. Our editorial content is never influenced by commercial relationships.
We're based in the UK, writing for UK readers, about UK rules. If something's changed and we haven't updated it yet — get in touch.
The Life Stages We Cover
Our guides cover 12 of life's biggest financial moments:
How Our Content Is Made
Every guide on FundedLife starts with the same question: what does someone actually need to understand about this moment, and what are they likely to get wrong?
The answers are grounded in official UK legislation, HMRC and FCA guidance, government consultations, and the financial systems knowledge Robin Calvert has accumulated over 25 years working inside some of the UK's most complex financial infrastructure. We use a range of research and editorial tools to ensure comprehensive, structured coverage — and every article is built around templates developed specifically for UK financial guidance at each life stage.
Before publication, each piece is reviewed for factual accuracy, appropriate tone, and plain-English clarity. We link to primary sources wherever possible, and every page carries a "last reviewed" date so you can see exactly how current it is.
When thresholds change, allowances shift, or government policy is updated — we update the content. We don't leave stale figures on the page.
Our Editorial Standards
We hold ourselves to the following commitments:
Accuracy first
We cite official UK sources (GOV.UK, HMRC, the FCA, the ICO) wherever possible. If a figure or rule changes, we update the relevant content.
Commercial transparency
FundedLife may feature partner links, referral arrangements or sponsored content. When we do, we say so clearly, before you click anything. A commercial relationship never changes our editorial position. We won't point you towards a product or service we wouldn't be comfortable recommending to a friend, and our informational content stays independent regardless of who we work with.
Plain English, always
If we can't explain something simply, we haven't understood it well enough yet. Where technical terms are unavoidable, we explain them.
Honest about our limits
We'll tell you what the rules are, what your options typically look like, and what questions are worth raising. What to actually do in your situation is a conversation for a financial adviser.
We Are Not a Financial Adviser
FundedLife is an independent information resource operated by RDC IT Solutions Ltd. We are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and nothing on this website constitutes regulated financial advice.
UK financial rules are complex, and your personal circumstances matter enormously. Two people facing the same life event can have very different optimal responses. Our guides are designed to give you the vocabulary and context to have a more productive conversation when you do speak to a regulated professional.
You can find one through Unbiased or the FCA's Financial Services Register.
